OK, listen to me ... it is not every day that a gal gets a chance to speak at Penn State. What a great opportunity! What bragging rights you'll have afterwards. :)

Take it.

There are 2 kinds of expertise. Expert and Lay. The expert has education and training on the subject. The lay-expert has first hand experience - experience that the experts likely don't have but need.

You can talk to a cardiologist who has never had a heart attack and learn something. You can talk to someone who has lived through a heart attack and learn something else. Both are important.

That's why you've been asked to speak - your first-hand experience and your passion. You don't need a degree - they already have that. You are going to supply what they don't have, which is your daily experiences with the elderly and your contact with dementia.

Now stop worrying and take that tiger by the tail! And pop by my blog after you speak and let me know how it went. :)
