While Noah is getting sleepy and watching a puppy movie on Netflix, I'll blog. Win win =)
Saturday, October 21.
Our day started early. We met the Bob Neff Tours group and the coach taking us on our day long excursion before 7a. Last year I had bid on a gift certificate for Bob Neff Tours during a fund raiser that ModernEyes had for needy families in our area. I was thrilled to out bid someone that I later found out was a ModernEyes employee! I really wanted it because my friend, Marge, hosts tours for them. When we finally got around to booking something it was a choice of a train ride in WV or a trip to NYC. Ellen chose the train....of course!
The bus (coach.....but I have a hard time changing my terminology) picked up people at three different locations and then we were really off on our trip. We made one short reststop before stopping at a neat inn for brunch around 10:30. I didn't take any pictures inside but it was an old historic building with old wood ....totally cool. Food was really good too.
Not a great picture but shows some of the outside of the inn.
Some pretty gardens and a place to sit and enjoy!
You can see our coach in the background.
It was a very pretty day.
From there drove for several more hours through small towns, hills and valleys, farms. Beautiful!
We have arrived....Wappocomo Station, Romney, WV.
Lots of other folks going on a train ride also. The conductor said 500 people coming off the train, 500 getting on!
The platform is entrance height....no steps.
Ellen and her friend, Bri. They are excited!
Bri with her parents, Marge (our trip hostess) and Ray.
All the people on our tour were seated in this car.
There were bathrooms on the train....always a good thing for a three hour ride ;-)
And a concession stand also....another good thing for a three hour ride!
On one side of the train you saw mostly sides of mountains, a few dwellings, some old and some not, a few farm animals.
On the other side it was mostly the river and mountains with a few dwellings and a campground too.
It was a beautiful!
Not many colored leaves....this one spot was it!
The train went slowly through an area they call The Trough. This is where you can see eagles.....we saw two. They were both perched in a tree. It was helpful for me to have the narrator point them out! Some in our group saw otters, deer, raccoon, and more. I suspect the two men that reported this are hunters. They knew what and where to look!
The train had many cars. There was an open car right behind the engine that you can go to at a designated point on the ride. Dale and Ellen did that. At first it was too full so they rode in a car with no windows until the next time for the open car. Ellen enjoyed that very much. It was a long walk to the end of the train and I was content to stay where I was.
The day became more cloudy but the temperature was pleasant...probably in the 70's.
And here's our girl......she would do this train ride again in a heartbeat!
It was a long ride home on the bus, I mean coach. We stopped at a Mc Donald's in Hagerstown, MD around 8p and then back to where we started our day at 11! It was a long day but certainly also a fun day!

Doris, That made for a lo0ng day. I would have to have restrooms...old lady bladder. LOL. Your girl with her thumbs up, great attitude > :):) The trip would have much sweeter in autumn foliage. I have been to Hagerstown Md. I think a cross country train ride would be wonderful. You would need a berth to lie down when really tired. Or I would I mean. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
I think a train ride is so good because you can see a part of the country that you dont see when driving on an interstate, plus you can get up and walk and not have to sit so long. Glad it was a good trip and all enjoyed.
This looks like such fun! We went on an old train in Colorado and we really enjoyed the scenery. I love that last pic of Ellen!
Susie, normally it would have been fall foliage. But they are experiencing a delay just as we are here in PA. Our trees are showing some color this week but it's slow and I'm not at all confident it will get all that pretty. Pretty was last year ;-)
What a great day for Ellen and Bri and the families. West Virginia is beautiful this time of year.
What a fun excursion for everyone, Doris. Lucky you for winning it too!
Wow!! That WAS a long day! At least you didn't have to drive most of the day. How cool that you won the trip!
We went on a train ride a few years ago from Bellefonte to Lock Haven to see fall foliage. That was not a pretty year either, so a bit of a disappointment in that regard.
What fun! That's a long ride to get to the train, though. Thanks for all the pictures. I love the last one of Ellen with her thumbs up. You can tell she was just loving it.
Wish I could have tagged along for that entire trip:) Looks like SO much fun! Enjoy your day dear Doris, HUGS!
That looks like a lot of fun. I enjoyed the pictures and the happy smiles on Bri and Ellen's faces.
